The things you might have missed while you were thinking…

How much time do you spend in your own head? I can probably answer that for you… and the answer is A LOT. And what thoughts are you thinking when you’re spending all that time in your head? Maybe thoughts like:

“Hmmm… I wonder what I’m going to do after work today?”

“Why doesn’t he or she like me?”

“I can’t wait to go back to bed”

The list goes on and on… and that's how we spend most of our days. Trapped in our own thoughts. Experts estimate that the mind thinks between 60,000–80,000 thoughts a day. The crazy part of that stat is how many of those thoughts are the same from the previous day…

You start to get the point that we as humans can overthink a lot… and most of our lives. But let me ask you… when was the last time you were actually present in this very moment taking everything in and just being aware?

For instance… the smell of your freshly brewed coffee sitting on your desk, or the feeling of your fingertips tapping away on your phone, or breathing in the air you’re sitting in wherever you are. There are so many things we’re missing that we don't see simply because we’re stuck in our own heads. This ends up costing us precious moments in our lives that we didn't see as valuable in the first place. Gratitude is the first stepping stone in getting present within the moment.

Just be without any judgment of yourself.

Allow your thoughts to flow in your head and realize 99% of them are really just useless. They’re not factual and most of the time there not helpful. Let go of any thoughts you might have of the moment right now and just breathe. Become aware of your surroundings. Let go of the perception of time. Time is just an illusion. Fall in love with the simple things of life. Next time you catch yourself thinking, just say to yourself “Cool. Thank you thought.” and just move on.
